Working with a partner (data science & engineering consultancy), the Organization adopted a best-practice framework covering people, processes & technology. The Chalange
The Organization faced the following key challenges:
Data volume and complexity: The lab was processing thousands of biomarker tests per day across multiple modalities (genomic, proteomic, metabolomic). The raw data streams were heterogeneous, high-dimensional, and growing rapidly.
Predictive gap: Despite the volume of biomarker data, the Organization lacked a robust model to identify risk of adverse patient outcomes (for example, progression, treatment non-response, or re‐hospitalisation). Clinicians were receiving static reports rather than proactive insights.
Reporting bottleneck: Generating clinician-ready summaries required significant manual effort by lab scientists and data analysts. Turn-around time for reports was long, and variation in quality and format was high.
Regulatory & audit demands: Given the sensitivity of biomarker tests and the regulated domain (e.g., diagnostics, medical device/software as a medical device), the organisation needed transparent model governance, traceability, and IT service continuity.
Scale & integration: The model needed to integrate with existing LIS/EHR, handle global operations (multiple labs, geographies), and maintain high availability—all with minimal disruption to ongoing operations.
